Sofia Alrich was awarded our HAUSPRINT Graduate Prize in 2023. Sofia Alrich’s work experiments with imagery pertaining to nature, exploring the visual parallelisms between the human body and natural life, the macro and the micro. By abstracting images from the natural world, she seeks to create visual associations that express how our universe is connected in unexpected ways, reflecting on the Hermetic concept of – As above, so below-.

Tim Foxen has recently returned to printmaking. His work is experimental and grows out of an interest in the qualities of materials and processes, and how they may be made to ‘speak’ on both a subjective and more universal level. His ideas grow out of primary and secondary visual research and art history.

Michelle Avison shows work made in response to the landscape of County Kerry after a residency there in February this year. The prints include painterly monotypes and etchings drawn on the shore in a direct and visceral response to the weather and location. They explore being in the landscape, not just how it looks.

Mia Thompson works across animation and printmaking, using physical ways of making to explore themes around mental health and being human. Making through a visually playful lens, her work is punctuated by ‘dad jokes’ and slightly surreal imagery.

Claire Willberg’s practice integrates traditional intaglio and relief printmaking techniques to create prints and stop-motion animations. Her recent work is inspired by small-scale plastic objects found discarded on streets. Willberg documents these objects through photography and further transforms and explores them using printmaking. This new exhibition strand at HAUSPRINT will showcase the wide range of printmaking techniques and approaches that our artists use and explore. A place for experimentation and discovery, HAUSPRINT pushes the boundaries of print, particularly by exploring what printmaking brings to image and image making. We are committed to the process and language of print and its fundamental ability to make us think as artists.
