What will I be doing?
This course is designed to help you to find unique ways to express yourself, with an exciting combination of external drawing trips and working in the print studio.
Tutor Chris Christodoulou will guide you through a great combination of drawing exercises in collage, mixed media, drypoint and collagraph printmaking techniques. Chris will encourage you to explore your personal responses to subject matter and to allow the drawing and making process to give you new ideas.
Group discussions, one-to-ones and suggestions for working at home between classes will encourage you to experiment and learn from each other.
This course allows the artist to take a journey, it could take the form of book arts, a large collage created by all, or a musical score that connects to a dance on canvas. It can be anything that allows the exploration of ideas. Experimentation is key to this process alongside a healthy exchange of ideas.
About your tutor
Chris Christodoulou studied Fine Art at Chelsea School of Art and completed MAs in Art and Special Art Projects at University of East London and Metropolitan University respectively. Chris is an artist, teacher and architect with a passion for drawing, printmaking and mixed media, committed to sharing his printmaking expertise and ideas.
Chris is particularly interested in bringing together different mediums and techniques, including printmaking but also including book arts, installation and sculpture. He is a very good observational drawer, and will help you to find a way of looking and recording the world around you in order to develop prints from your research.
In printmaking Chris has an affinity with drypoint – he exploits the strong burr line to build strong, forceful inner and external landscapes.
What should I bring?
Bring a personal item, an old photo, a story, something that stirs the imagination to the first class… plus a sketchbook, pencils, and other drawing equipment.
For the printing sessions, an apron, notebook, paintbrushes, drawing equipment will be useful. Chris will discuss further requirements at the first and subsequent classes.
It’s a good idea to bring lunch. We have a small kitchen with a microwave and fridge, plates, cutlery and mugs. Tea and coffee will be provided.
