Etching
Etching was originally invented as a method for adding decoration to armour during the Middle Ages. Artists began to use metal plates for printing in the 15th century, when Albrecht Durer made work on iron plates. Later artists such as Andrea Mantegna in Italy and Rembrandt in Holland went on to make etchings on copper.

The HAUSPRINT Etching Year is designed to provide stable building blocks for your printmaking future, whatever your starting point. Over 40 weeks you’ll be guided through a specialist programme delivered over three terms which teaches the principles of etching.

The light sees the paper
Kristen Nelson’s prints and photographs explore memory. A feeling of nostalgia and visual references to a remembered landscape connect with home. Using aquatint, a painterly, tonal technique and black and white photography, Nelson’s work illuminates the idea of returning home through the interplay between light and shadow.
To carry a feeling
An exhibition of monoprints. A mark feels like a letter in the landscape of encoded things. It is an archaeology of feeling and locating through the process of making.
Peripheral Vision
Lucy Annan explores what is on and beyond “the edge”, the things in our peripheral vision. She works up to and blurs the edges of blocks and plates, suggesting half discernible shapes just out of reach.
